No Child Left Behind is Dead!

I am reading the great book, "As Texas Goes ..", by Gail Collins. Now I know how this contraption was born, and I also know, that I am a casualty.

Let me explain.

Texas is Not Mexico, but is not the US either!

The news that prompted these thoughts can be found here. On a personal aside, my financial worries are a bit less; the way  I feel, colors this note also. Obama used his power as the POTUS, because he must have heard, the complaints of his vice president and buddy, Joe Biden. Mr. Biden  knows the life of a teacher, because there are some in his family. Now some teachers can breathe a sigh of relief. The president had this power all along, but as in the movie, "The Wizard of Oz", just like Dorothy, he chose to use it, only until today. Waivers were given to some states, circumventing Congress, allowing teachers to teach as they know how, without the worry of the non-performing label. Donald Trump loves to shout, You are Fired!, but that is not the way to treat, our beautiful children's teachers, who in some cases are almost saints.

This contraption was born in Texas, as I learned in Ms. Collins' book.

Down there, there are a bunch of cowboys, who deny science, and want to teach their kids, as if they were workers in a factory. Study for the test, and the world be damned!

They did for profit!

Milking our taxes, to the tune of billions of dollars, as in the Savings & Loans, Ponzi scheme they invented before.

Why am I a casualty?

I was confused when they disappeared my position at Lucent in 2001. My wife found out about a nice program at  Benedictine University in Lisle. For a fee;  I paid with a loan, which I have not paid yet, I became certified to teach science at the high school level. With one year of classroom experience, I was supposed to be equivalent to an education graduate. In my case it did not work.

The Profit Motive has not worked that well for me so far.

I will keep trying.
