Michael Redmond Quiz

Quiz

  1. Why is Earth geologically active? The Earth is hot enough inside that convection occurred. larger planets cool slower than small ones.
  2. What processes shape Earth's surface? Impacts from asteroids or comets, volcanism, tectonics, erosion.
  3. How does Earth's atmosphere affect the planet? protects from radiation, creates a greenhouse effect, makes the sky blue.
  4. Was there ever geological activity on the Moon or Mercury? both the moon's and Mercury's smooth maria was made by lava floods billions of years ago.
  5. What geological features tell us that water once flowed on Mars? Dried river beds can be seen on Mars.
  6. Why did Mars change? Mars is much smaller than Earth so its core cooled faster.
  7. Is Venus geologically active? it has volcanism, and an atmosphere but not plate tectonics.
  8. Why is Venus so hot? Because of the greenhouse effect trapping the heat in the atmosphere.
  9. What unique features of Earth are important for life? it has surface liquid water, atmospheric oxygen, plate tectonics and climate stability.
  10. How is human activity changing our planet? it is raising the CO2 in the atmosphere more than The CO2 cycle would naturally have.
