Both Szent-Györgyi and Ling have addressed Cancer. I remember a lecture at UCSB, when a speaker told us that Cancer has been with us since the beginning of life. Recently I read that other animals like lizards, can regenerate lost body parts, and that humans lost that ability likely because we live longer and have to fight the danger of Cancer.
My mother died of Cancer, one brother thinks that it came about because she had diabetes for a long time, and the only part of her body that could take injections repeatedly was her tummy. Cells there had to regenerate themselves over and over again, until one day they went berserk.
My guess is then that all cells live in constant danger of growing too much.
In a sense we could say that we became Earth's Cancer. A disproportionate fraction of organic material is becoming part of us, at the expense of healthy life growth.
Maybe that is why Szent-Györgyi and Ling have not succeeded in vanquishing Cancer. That scourge will go away only when humanity reaches wisdom.
Just saying.
