Canto Criollo

I posted Kopani's song by that name. A friend asked me if it was a style, or just that song. He got me thinking. In the song she talks about brown, and white skin, Spaniards and Mexicans. She is a beautiful mixture herself. Her skin is in between, nor white nor black. In Atoyac de Älvarez, where she is from, there are Mestizos.

Criollo, in Mexico, during the Independence war of 1810, were the American born Spaniards. So I guess in modern day Guerrero, Canto Criollo means, Canto Mestizo really. According to Wikipedia, though; a little Indian blood did not put one out of the Criollo Caste; go figure.

Those are my two cents worth of music knowledge.
