Among intellectuals, natural scientists - biologists, chemists, and physicists - have a duty to tell people the truth. Not because other intellectuals do not want to tell the truth, but because the scientific method is effective at getting at it, once the right questions are asked to Nature.
Nevertheless these sciences seem arid to non-scientists, and sometimes it is not clear what the point is to study them. For some minds, it may seem more relevant to know what Tila Tequila is doing.
I am afraid my concern with environmental degradation, may seem irrelevant to some young people. If I keep harping on them that it is serious, two things may happen, they may get scared, or cynical.
Maybe a good goal, is to be so annoying, that when they start to see bad, really bad things happening, they may come back and look at the data that supports the claims.
Scientists act like crying babies, because few people see what we see; and it causes us perception dissonance.
Given that most scientists spent more time thinking than other professionals, I invite readers to take scientific reports seriously.
