I always wondered why variational principles play a role at all. Many thinkers have considered the issue. Ideas go from just because, to that is how God searches for perfection.
Obviously a Universal Natural Selection Principle, will be part of the answer. Darwin got it right, but it applies to this Universe even before life appeared.
I lean that way.
If that is so, I'd expect that Theoretical Biologists like Martin Nowak will wise up, and just steal the tools from MIT.As I remember, there is a bus that takes you there in no time at all.
