Location, Location, Location

After the debate ended, everybody lost in twitter.com!

According to Acemoglu and Robinson, location is everything.

The historical conditions have made Mexico a very Extractive Society. Everybody wants to exploit everybody else. It started in Modern times with Cortes killing Cuauhtemoc, almost 500 years ago. But the problem is older. Aztecs exploited Tlaxcaltecs, and everybody else.

The English in Jamestown wanted to exploit the American Indians. That was not going to be. It was physically impossible to repeat what Cortes did in Mexico, and Pizarro in Peru.

Therefore the English had to give inducement to workers. They got land, and worked. To keep the system going they needed an Extractive Political System, and the rest is History.
