In the US we have Phil!
``The earliest American reference to Groundhog Day can be found at the Pennsylvania Dutch Folklore Center at Franklin and Marshall College:''
``In Southern and Central Mexico, and Guatemala City, Candlemas (Spanish: Día de La Candelaria) is celebrated with tamales. Tradition indicates that on January 5, the night before Three Kings Day (the Epiphany), whoever gets one or more of the few plastic or metal dolls (originally coins) buried within theRosca de Reyes must pay for the tamales and throw a party on Candlemas.[citation needed] In certain regions of Mexico, this is the day in which the baby Jesus of each household is taken up from the nativity scene and dressed up in various colorful, whimsical outfits.[citation needed]''
My children are both Mexican and American. How can I explain the relation between a Groundhog and a tamale?
It beats me!
We had Rosca de Reyes this year, I got the little doll that forces me to buy the tamales, nevertheless, tomorrow I won't be with them.
Do virtual tamales count?
