The Canadian government filed an official complaint with the United States over the treatment of Maher Arar, the Canadian the United States sent to Syria for interrogation that included torture on the basis of false terrorism allegations. Prime Minister Stephen Harper told reporters that he wanted the United States to acknowledge “inappropriate conduct” and to commit that such an incident would not happen again.
