Is Stephen Wolfram Ahead of His Time?

It has been almost ten years since Wolfram published A New Kind of Science. To this day I do not know of a well paid collective effort to understand what he found. I read the book and I am very impressed, but unless and until I get my hands on enough processors will I understand what he found, really.

I do not have a grant to do this work. I do not know of any group doing this successfully.

Will we have to wait twenty, or  more years before all of us understand what he did? Or was he just wrong?

I tend to believe the former.
