From Oparin's book below one reads:
``The laws of organic chemistry cannot account for those phenomena of a higher order which are encountered in the study of living cells.''
There is a proposal by Pollack et al., on the origin of life here.
It seems to me that Oparin's ideology, which is a guide as good as any, took the better of him. I haven't read the whole book, but what I do know is that basic properties of water were neglected, to say the least, by a good sized group of scientists for over fifty years.
Pollack's study of water could open a door to a better life for all of us. One that starts by understanding: What is Life?
