From Sciam I read that cholera cases reached 900, in 6 provinces in Haiti.
I just finished reading two novels by Freddy Carreto Nájera, Corazón Peludo, (Hairy Heart) and, El Arca Cósmica, (Cosmic Ark) I am very touched.
I heard yesterday in XEUAG, the Guerrero University radio station, an interview with the writer and his mother. Then in my way to the office I saw my friends from Codicit, which organized a contest for all the students of K-9, called Arma la Historia, The kids are getting ready right now, in a nearby hotel, to go see president Calderón, next week. They won a scholarship, Becas de la Generación del Bicentenario.
Carreto depicts the end of the world, his Ark is like Noah's. What touched me deeply, is that unlike the biblical tale, this sounds very realistic. I quote:
My translation:
Lady, how were the flowers in the country?
Beautiful child, the flowers were like the joys you've had, which to keep you happy later turn into seeds, then rain conjures up little plants, with time, and humidity they grew and grew till they reached a good size. All of a sudden one of its leaves gave way to a bud, which in the first days looked the same as the leaves. Like a magic act, a good day at dawn, it waited for the sun to get warm and then blossomed, with more color and fragrance.
End of translation.
I was crying imagining all these children that didn't know flowers because humans had destroyed the Earth.
This book forces us to face the Earth dying, if you go to Haiti today, you'll see how the end of the world will look like.
A little more positive look at Haiti here.
``“You have to be really determined right now,” said Marie Alice Craft, another C.C.F. director. “If you’re not, the whole thing will fall apart, and we can’t allow that to happen. The adults are exhausted, but these kids deserve a future. We can’t let C.C.F. fail, just like we can’t let Haiti fail.”''
People are fighting.
