¡Sin Maíz no hay Pais!
There are few places on Earth where Civilization started. Rice in Asia, Wheat in the Middle East, and Corn in Mesoamerica; gave origin to three different civilizations. Once a people has stored food, a few rulers, priests, and intellectuals produce the ideas behind which their civilizations are based.
From those three, our Mesoamerican civilization is in most danger. Two factors I see are the geographical separation from the rest of the civilized world, and the north south orientation of the continent. I am using Jared Diamond's view on Geographical Determinism.
I hope the Mesoamerican people find the way out.
