"“We really view this as an opportunity and a game changer,” said Ronald W. Hovsepian, the chief executive of Novell, which plans to offer a customized version on Moblin to computer makers. Novell views Moblin as a way to extend its business selling software and services related to Linux."
Netbooks are going to change the computer business. At least in Mexico where we don't have that much money.

Netbooks came with Linux - a great idea. It would be very interesting to know what really happened - the result now is about 90 per cent netbooks with MS windows, at least according to the press. What were the main forces behind the change? Now a second round is coming - ARM-processor based netbooks expected later in 2009. There is no windows for arm (except the windows CE and windows mobile, rather irrelevant). Will those change the situation? I would like to mention - since mathematics education might be the issue here - that on my arm-based Nokia N-800 linux (Maemo) internet tablet I have octave (mathematics software) which I built myself on a Maemo emulator.
It seems that the manufacturers try to sell linux netbooks (see the recent HP netbook for students), but the distribution part and the press work for MS-windows. As scientists, perhaps we should help the linux alternative.
Ladislav:
I'm all for the Linux alternative.
People from Guerrero notice a change in price of $20 US Cy. That is around 250 of our pesos. That buys a lot of tortillas, and sombreros around here.
Things have changed since exchanged ideas with Ladislav.
I was not given money in Mexico to pursue this important work. I do not sell myself well.
I am back in Illinois trying to start another life stage, at 60!
I just bought an HP Mini at Best Buy with Windows 7 installed. This machines can be had with Suse also. Not in Best Buy though.
I was not able to connect to a HP DeskJet 3915: driver obsolescence, of all things!
Crooks!
Maybe Google's tablet next year will be better.
I do not have much time to leave my mark in this world.
