I am reading the Wired magazine article "New Socialism ..", given that I was a socialist admirer of Russia in my youth, I cannot let this pass.

I met Eric Raymond while working at Lucent; that is how I was made aware of that strange American beast called a "Libertarian". This is no "Cathedral and the Bazaar", but here you have my 5 cent worth of wisdom on the subject.

First of all I want to thank the many Open Source "libertarian-socialists" souls that allow me to express my views here by the quality of their coding efforts.

I have an obsession with the mathematical and philosophical category of Information.This I believe to be at the same level as Matter, Energy, Space and Time. We have a foursome of elements, like the old Fire, Earth, Water, and Air, of the ancient Greeks, and a Fifth Element. Now they are: Energy, Matter, Space, Time and Information.

Everything is made out of these four fundamental elements, guided by the fifth element.

The late John Wheeler used to say, It from Bit. I am not there yet. I do not know if Information creates Matter, the other way around or none of the above. But Information still hides some of the mysteries of reality as far as I am concerned.

To me then, what we are witnessing as socialism,;Wired dixit, is the coming of age of Information. We are building huge amounts of it compulsively. It is as if the thing was alive and we are just being, parents or midwives, I still don't know which.
