I was six years old in 1956 when the last flu pandemic hit the world. So I may have some immunity.
This pandemic, according to the NYT (below) is similar to the 1957 one.
"In La Gloria, they found, children suffered much more often; flu infected more than 61 percent of those under age 15, but only 29 percent of those 15 and over — which suggests a protective immunity in those who caught the 1957 flu or even previous human H1N1 seasonal flus. It also suggests this flu can spread rapidly in schools, nurseries, military camps and other settings with many young people."
I have a protective immunity, since I am over 15.
That is reassuring.
The Centers for Disease Control report ends this way.
"Echoing her bosses’ distress that the public is losing interest, Dr. Schuchat added that “there is a perception out there that we are winding down, that we are in a lull.”
That is untrue, she said. The virus “is actively circulating,” she said, “and we don’t know what will happen come the fall.”"
