Is the Messiah Among Us?

Messiah lives deep in our souls. The promised saviour of mankind. He'll deliver us from our rotten life and give us greatness.

From Tom Friedman today we have this:

"The second Arab-Muslim response emerged in 1979. To start, there was the takeover that year of the Grand Mosque in Mecca by Islamist extremists who challenged the religious credentials of the Saudi ruling family. The Saudi rulers responded by forging a new bargain with their Islamists: Let us stay in power and we will give you a free hand in setting social norms, relations between the sexes and religious education inside Saudi Arabia — and abundant resources to spread Sunni Wahabi fundamentalism abroad."

I remember a picture in the NYT, the leader of the Mecca takeover, looked like Jesus Christ, I kid you not.

This is Juhayman ibn Muhammad ibn Sayf al-Otaibi. This was supposed to be the Mahdi.

From the Wikipedia article on this seizure we can read:

"The rebels' leader, Juhayman, was captured, and he and 67 of his fellow rebels—"all the surviving males"—were tried secretly, convicted and publicly beheaded in the squares of four Saudi cities. [31]  "

I was really transfixed by his face, his conviction, and completely unable to understand the meaning of what was going on.

Friedman tells us that after that, Muslims started a movement we are still witnessing today in Afghanistan.

I am no Friedman. I am not paid by Carlos Slim in the NYT. What you read here, is what I really believe.

Unless and until the enlightenment of humanity comes. We are doomed.
