Brian Arthur believes that technological change takes decades to get established. If he is right, the nineties was not the time for .com, it is the tens. In 2010 I predict many businesses in the US and abroad, finally are going to qualitatively change to a new economy. The Information Economy.
My idea of ten years ago, maybe will be realized now.
Supercomputers for all mid size businesses.
My problem now, is why Carnicería Jiménez in West Chicago needs a supercomputer?
For those that do not know the Chicago area, we have one of the biggest Mexican concentrations in the whole world. First we have Mexico City, then LA, and third place must be hotly contested between Guadalajara, Monterrey and Chicago. New York may be below these Mexican megalopolis, not by much though.
My friend Jaime R. Viteri is a well established enterpreneur in the Chicago area. We both worked at Lucent Technologies. I offered him this idea ten years ago, but nothing happened. Maybe now.
I don't even have to go to Chicago, not even with Mexicans only. Is there a need for heavy duty computation in mid size companies? Now it is affordable.
First you build it, and then they come.
