Let me tell you what my real intention is. I have to make sense of Verlinde's derivation of Newton's Universal Gravitation law, using entropy and temperature. The fundamental ingredient is Information, not forces.
I believe String Theory is the right way, but it is lacking a physical ingredient. I think I found it. It is Information. Now I have to define what is Information, and how does it enter in the explanations.
The area of a black hole can only increase. Black holes eat black holes, and become bigger black holes. The areas increase, and that is like entropy. For a closed system, entropy can only increase.
The particles in a box example is one such case. When all the particles are on one side of the box, the entropy is less. The information is more (they go in opposite directions, one is the negative of the other). When we reach the Fifty-Fifty case, the entropy is more; now we know less precisely where the particles are, they could with equal probability be in the left or in the right. We have less information about that box.
Then Jacob Bekenstein proposed that entropy was proportional to the area of the black hole. Hawking had already found the temperature, the Hawking-Gibbons temperature. The rest as they say is History. But to this point I don't get it. All I have is vague ideas inspired by 't Hooft,Susskind, Verlinde, Hawking, Bekenstein, Hartle (I was his TA at UCSB), Maldacena, Cardy, ... This is along list, I just have vague ideas. These notes I am writing are my efforts to come to grips to what is happning right now in Physics.
Forget about NAFTA, Mexicans, and NASA. I want to know what is the role of Information in Physics?
More to come.
