Does Dark Energy Exist?

Some of the entropic proposals for gravity lead to the prediction that dark energy is not necessary to explain the acceleration of the universe. Entropy on the cosmic holographic surface suffices, whatever that means.

In a series of notes on Entropic Dynamics I developed a prolegomena of what that theory should contain. Here I try my hand in connecting Easson-Frampton-Smoot to the question on this post.

They say that it is not necessary to invoke Dark Energy; that entropy fits the bill. Professor Frampton has been pushing the idea that most of dark matter, if not all, is just very big black holes. To argue that point, he calculates the entropy budget of the universe, and concludes that black holes suffice, as long as there are more, bigger to the already observed ones. To his credit more big holes have been found in the hundred of times solar mass range.

Entropy and Information relate properties of matter and our perception. I do not mean to say that we need to perceive them for them to exist. There is an old tradition of debates on this direction, you can read about Wigner's friend. I do not believe we need any such friend. Information exists in a Universe without consciousness.

In this friendless approach I ask: Does entropy accelerate the Universe?

It is ironic that events put us in this condition. Either there is Dark Energy that nobody understands, or there is Information, which is equally misunderstood in my reckoning.

According to Easson et al., Entropy does it.

So if Entropy is the cause, what causes the entropy?

The Universe just wants to grow, will be a bland way to put this.

At this point I do not have more insights.
